Congressman DesJarlais’ Statement on Paul Ryan as VP Choice

Jasper, Tennessee – Representative Scott DesJarlais, M.D. (TN-04) released the following statement regarding the decision by Governor Romney to name Chairman of the House Budget Committee Paul Ryan (WI-01) as his vice presidential running mate:

“I can think of no better choice for vice president than Representative Paul Ryan. Today’s announcement furthers my optimism that 2013 will bring an opportunity to rebuild the economic strength this country needs and deserves.

“Tennesseans know that we cannot continue to bury the problems facing this nation under a mountain of empty promises and fancy speeches. The road to recovery will require difficult decisions and bold leadership that this president simply cannot provide. Paul has shown that he is willing to put people before politics, new ideas before failed Washington policies and the future of this country above all else.

“Sadly, President Obama and his supporters’ vision of hope and change evolved into the politics of division and demagoguery. We owe it our future generations to not let those who have nothing more to offer than the status quo deter us in our efforts to create a more prosperous future for this great nation.”
